Are you experiencing writer’s block, are you stuck on where to go, do the words seem to be stuck somewhere between your brain and the tips of your fingers. Don’t feel alone. This happens to all writers at one time or another. So you ask yourself how do I get out of this funk? How do I get un-stuck?
Here’s a suggestion: Write. Now you ask what do I write about. How about a writing prompt. Let’s see what we can do with the following:
“Slow Down”
At my writers group we have a bag of slips of paper with writing prompts for our sessions. So I reached in and grabbed one from our “grab bag”.
Submit your effort as a comment.

This is going to be part of chapter 2 from my new novel “A Cold Day in January”:
Frank raced along the highway of the frozen prairie of South Dakota. The day had not improved except for the wind since he left the house earlier in the day to check out the crime scene with Police Captain, Mike Kenney. When he and Missy walked across the yard to get into her canary yellow with white top FJ Cruiser, she had complained that as she would breathe out her breath fell to the ground as ice.
They both knew that they lived in South Dakota and that the winters were worse than being in someone’s deep freeze. They also knew that when the arctic wind blew fingers drifts across the road could damage vehicles if they hit them wrong or at the wrong speed.
On this day the plows hadn’t been able to get to their area; so on their way back to where the police found the bodies of their friends, Jenn and Luis, Frank knew he has to slow down. In reality he was in no real hurry to revisit the frozen Big Sioux River where the bodies were dumped. Missy wasn’t in the mood either. They were determined to do what ever they needed to bring the killer or killers to justice in the Old West style – no lawyers – no jail – no judge – and definitely no jury.
