So you want to write that next great American novel or that next block-buster mystery? What does it take since you have to leave home every day to earn a paycheck? Then you come home to your spouse and your children who decided that they are the next Picaso using your living room wall as their canvas.

Here’s what I suggest; get a journal because booting up the computer takes time and then when you sit down there you are not alone with your thoughts; your wife/husband wants your undivided attention or there are the dishes, mopping a spill, fixing a broken toy, mending something in the house. There is just no time you can call your own with that vision that happens to be bouncing around every corner of your mind. Here’s what I do. I take my lunch to work with me and sit at my desk, write in my journal while munching my lunch. Sometimes I leave for work early and find a quite corner in the lunch room and write or when at home after everyone else is in bed, I write some more. All you need to do is put in an hour a day. Also if the last thing you do before you go to bed is write, your mind will work on the story as you sleep. Your dreaming mind is fertile ground for that next great vision in the genre you like best.

Remember an hour a day, just write for an hour every day without fail.
